Susan Pulley married Mr. Smiley in December 1881. There is a conflict of dates, as some sources indicate the marriage taking place on 1 December 1881 and others on 8 December 1881. At any rate, the following story appeared in The Tipton Times on 13 December 1881:

John Christopher Pulley was born in Nodaway County, Missouri, and died in Stockton, Rooks County, Kansas. He apparently had three wives, the first one, who was the mother of Alonzo and Louisa May Pulley Reeder, we have not yet been able to identify.

We have some preliminary information on William DeKalb Pulley from census records. A post to the RootsWeb.com forum for Leavenworth County, Kansas resulted in additional information (thanks Kate!) which will hopefully help us locate his obituary and other records to get this family straightened out.
